Funding for nuclear forces is estimated to top $750 billion in the next ten years.
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report documenting the cost of nuclear weapons systems for the coming 10 years. The Department of Defense will be modernizing significant portions of its nuclear weapons operations center and quick-response coordination aircraft. CBO estimates that roughly $756 billion will be spent between 2023 and 2032, which is $122 billion more than the ten-year nuclear arsenal estimate CBO released in 2021.
“Nuclear weapons have been an important component of U.S. national security since they were developed during World War II,” the CBO stated in its report. “Over the coming years, the Congress will need to decide which nuclear forces the United States should field in the future and thus the extent to which the nation will continue to modernize those forces.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Director Phillip Swagel to be led by God as he heads the Congressional Budget Office.
- For Pentagon officials as they assess the nuclear armament needs of the U.S.
- For Secretary Granholm as the Energy Department collaborates with the Defense Department on nuclear defense.
